The Benefits of LED Bulbs

If you’re looking for a bespoke modern crystal chandelier then you certainly won’t need to worry about the cost of lighting it or imagine that it must have candles sitting in it! Modern chandeliers come with LED light bulbs, which have been called the future of lighting.

LED bulbs use a fraction of the energy that older incandescent bulbs do. They also last a lot longer and provide instant brightness when switched on, with no warming up period. You might have heard in the past that these bulbs are prohibitively expensive or didn’t provide enough light, but thankfully technology has improved and neither of these issues holds much relevance today. Prices have come down significantly in recent years and while still pricier than older bulbs, their energy saving properties more than make up for it.

Modern LED bulbs create light using a different process than the older-style bulbs. Incandescent bulbs passed electricity through a wire filament, whereas LEDs use a semi-conductor that gives out light when a current is transported through it. LEDs even differ from other energy-saving bulbs which use a process of energy passing through mercury vapour and making UV light. The inside of the bulb is coated with phosphor which glows in reaction to the UV light.

There are many advantages of using LED bulbs in your chandelier:

  • The bulbs use 90% less energy than conventional bulbs. After a couple of months of use, they have often paid for themselves in terms of energy saving costs.
  • Depending on the type of bulb and how often it is used, an LED bulb can last for a whopping 25 years on average.
  • They light up brightly instantly meaning no prolonged wait for the lighting fixture to gradually reach full illumination.
  • They work just as effectively at low temperatures whereas some conventional bulbs do not.

Further benefits include the fact that they don’t contain any hazardous gases, liquids or solids so are kinder to the environment. The light that they produce is slightly colder than traditional bulbs and this has been proven to be great for growing plants. So, if you have house plants you might be doing them a favour too!

LED bulbs are available in a variety of colours which can help create the perfect ambience that you’re seeking with your special lighting fixture. They are kinder on the eyes as there is no high-power discharge and as they use direct light, there is also less light pollution than with conventional bulbs.

For those prone to light sensitivity issues, LED bulbs do not produce a flicker and are fully dimmable just like other bulbs. They are also extremely durable, almost impossible to break and totally rust-free meaning you can even use them in an outdoor light fitting.

LED bulbs don’t attract insects and produce no annoying noise such as humming or buzzing. They are also far safer than conventional bulbs because they use a lower voltage power supply. An LED bulb won’t suddenly burn out but will slowly become dimmer, giving you plenty of time to replace it.
